Central American and Caribbean Games 2006

The 20th Central American and Caribbean Games took place from July 17th to 30th, 2006 in the Colombian city ​​of Cartagena .

The most successful nation was Cuba , whose athletes won 139 gold medals in 449 competitions.

Participating Nations

32 countries took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games with a total of 4865 athletes.

The Central America and Caribbean Games featured 38 sports. For the first time competitions in water skiing were held. The rowing competitions took place in Mexico , the handball , racquetball , badminton , hockey and modern pentathlon competitions in the Dominican Republic . Due to the lack of a venue in Cartagena within Colombia, further venues were found: the cycling , shooting and bowling competitions took place in Barranquilla , the horse riding competitions in Bogotá .
