Central American and Caribbean Games 1978
The 13th Central American and Caribbean Games took place from July 7-22, 1978 in the Colombian city of Medellín .
At the initiative of Cuba , the dominant nation in the games, it was decided that only two participants per nation were allowed per competition, instead of the previous three. This was intended to prevent only one nation from being represented on the podium if there was a corresponding dominance. Nevertheless, Cuba once again placed itself at the top of the medal table by a large margin: 120 of the 188 competitions were won by Cuban athletes. In second place followed, as has often been the case in the past, Mexico , whose athletes have won gold 25 times.
Participating Nations
21 countries took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games with a total of 2605 athletes.
