The tennis competitions of the XV. The 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games were played from June 25th to July 4th on the grounds of the Ciudad Deportiva and the Centro Deportivo Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros .
There were singles and doubles and a mixed competition for women and men, as well as a team competition for women and men for the first time at these games. Two singles were played and, in the event of a tie, a double. Another innovation was that there was no match for third place in all competitions and bronze was awarded twice. This almost doubled the number of medal places from 15 to 28.
