Ombudsman (Namibia)

The Ombudsman in Namibia has been the Ombudsman in Namibia in southwest Africa since 1990 . It is headquartered in Windhoek and has regional offices in Keetmanshoop , Ongwediva and Swakopmund . Female public officials are called ombudswoman (English ombudswoman ).

He is the Office of the Ombudsman ( english The Office of the Ombudsman before). According to the Constitution of Namibia and the Ombudsman Act (Act 7 of 1990) , the Ombudsman has four functions, upon request or instruction:

  • Defense of human rights
  • Fight against corruption
  • Management problems
  • Problems in nature conservation

Since 2009 there has also been a media ombudsman who is exclusively responsible for the media sector.
