Swami Omkarananda (also Omkarananda Saraswati ; born December 25, 1929 in Hyderabad , India ; † January 4, 2000 in Langen near Bregenz , Austria ) was an Indian monk. In 1967 he founded the Divine Light Center in Winterthur , Switzerland , in 1982 the Omkarananda Ashram in Rishikesh in India and in 1986 the Omkarananda Ashram Austria in Langen near Bregenz.

In October 1975, an attack was carried out on the house of the Zurich government councilor Jakob Stucki in Seuzach near Winterthur. Two teenagers and young followers of the "Divine Light Center" (DLZ) were identified as perpetrators. In May 1979, Omkarananda was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by the federal court for the attack (and released in 1986). The investigation revealed that the teenagers and supporters of the DLZ tried to procure the explosive devices of their own accord, but in the process came across a police informant in Belgium; With one exception (the reference to a tracking device was not included in the case files), no evidence of manipulation of files was found.

The organizations founded by Swami Omkarananda continue to be active in the field of education and training and maintain dozens of schools and institutions in the foothills of the Himalayas, in Uttarakhand, India. The schools represent Swami Omkarananda's well-known aphorism "Think like a genius, work like a giant, live like a saint."
