Olukonda is a settlement and administrative seat of the constituency of the same name in the Oshikoto region in the north of Namibia . It is located near Ondangwa , around 245 km northwest of the city of Tsumeb and around 215 km east of Ruacana .

Olukonda was founded in 1870 as one of the first mission stations in the north of the country by the Finnish Mission Society. The Finnish missionary Martti Rautanen built the first church here in 1889 and wrote the first translation of the Bible into Ndonga . The place was considered the capital of northern Namibia for a long time. Nakambale Mission House, Church and Cemetery ( English Nakambale House, Church and Cemetery ) have been national monuments since November 2, 1992 . Here is also the Nakambale Museum , an art collection with exhibits from the time of missionary work, as well as traditional art objects.

Small settlements in Olukonda are Ontananga ( 18 ° 1 '  S , 16 ° 4'  O ) and Okaloko ( 18 ° 1 '  S , 16 ° 1'  O ). Olukonda is also home to the Ondonga kings .
