The Onelungo Ponds (in German about Onelungo water areas ) are a cultural landscape not far northwest of Outapi in the Omusati region in Namibia . They have been a Namibian national monument since September 1st, 2011 .
Onelungo Ponds are depressions of the Oshana system that fill with water during the rainy season . The area has a historical and cultural importance for the Mbalantu (Ombalantu). Traditionally they only caught one fish from the water sink, grilled it and gave it to the king. Only then was the fishing season allowed to start.
