Operation registration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The operation log was a systematic search action of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BFV) against smuggled agents of the Ministry of State Security in the 1970s and 1980s. The measure was based on analyzes of several cases of unmasked agents and the modus operandi recognized from them for the legendization of the agents by the Enlightenment Headquarters in the Federal Republic of Germany .

background

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), in cooperation with the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), found that the MfS always proceeded in a similar manner to establish its agents. For this purpose, false identities were established almost exclusively . These were based on a real identity, the owner of which had migrated from Germany and returned again. This finding led to a query in all federal German municipal registration registers for relevant persons. The results of these inquiries were evaluated by the BfV from 1979 onwards and as a result around 100 people were reported to the locally responsible criminal prosecution authorities , who then initiated investigations into agents. Immediate arrests were made in 17 cases based on the legal principle of imminent danger . Nevertheless, about 15 people managed to escape arrest by fleeing to the GDR.
