Sacrificial tub at Karches

The sacrificial tub is made of a granite block existing Geotop . It is located about 900 meters west of Karches in the municipality of Bischofsgrün in the Bayreuth district , below the B 303 in the Fischerloh forest department.

description

The sacrificial tub is about three meters long, two meters wide and half a meter high. In the middle there is a trough-like depression, the height of the rim of the trough is between 25 and 50 centimeters. It also has a hollow shape of natural origin that is two centimeters wide and 20 centimeters deep. The use of this peculiar granite block is not clearly clarified. It was presumably used to process the ores from a nearby iron luster mine. But in view of the gutter, it could also be an Pechstein act in the tree resin has been obtained for the pitch production. Such hollows, bowls and tubs often occur in the Fichtelgebirge and are the result of weathering , leaching and erosion . There is an information board on the tub.
