history

In 1706, hammer master Johann Christoph Weller built the Weißmain blast furnace (= Karches) with an associated apartment for the smelter, he processes the iron mica that occurs in the vicinity . In 1716 the property passed to his son-in-law v. Paschwitz, 1720 to Hammerherren v. Roth, in 1735 the furnace went down. On February 13, 1757, Roth sells the house and property to the servant Johann Karches on the Fröbershammer, at this time a "protective pond" (to protect = damming) already exists. The house later passed to the state, which sold it again in 1841; In 1857 the state bought the house again; it was used by a state forest ranger; Rebuilt in 1898. Waldhaus Karches has been privately owned again since 1970. From 1660 the Karchesweiher was used for wooden rafts; it got its current size after the construction of the Fichtelgebirgsstraße. 500 meters east of Karches and north of the B 303 is the Paschenweiher , which was still called the main raft pond or upper raft pond in the 18th century.
