history

origin

The village probably originated at the turn of the 11th to the 12th century as "Reuth des Wulfelin" in the last settlement period of the Walpoten . It did not appear in documents until 1317 in the Hirschberg feudal contract . The place experienced an upswing in the middle of the 18th century, when the old Hochstraße (Kronicher Weg) was expanded to become the “new Sträßlein” (now called Markgrafenweg). The margrave and his entourage drove along this road from Bayreuth to Kaiserhammer to his hunting lodge . Because of the long and usually very arduous path, Wülfersreuth was a welcome and necessary resting place to give people and animals a break. The Alte Schmiede and the Goldener Löwe tavern are witnesses of this time. In the 16th century the place belonged to the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach-Bayreuth .
