Birgit Abrecht

Birgit Abrecht (born June 17, 1961 in Birkenfeld, Württemberg ) is a German architect .

Life and works

Birgit Abrecht studied architecture at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences from 1981 to 1986 , where she obtained her diploma. After two years of professional experience as a salaried architect, she founded the office for solar architecture in Keltern in 1989 . Since then she has been working as a freelance architect in the field of solar architecture and ecological building . Her projects include low-energy , passive and solar active houses as well as efficiency houses .

One of the best-known buildings she has planned is her own solar house Abrecht, a residential and office building with passive use of solar energy , transparent thermal insulation , thermal solar systems and photovoltaic systems in Keltern. The solar active house with approx. 70% solar coverage was built in 1993 and gained international fame thanks to its technology and design. Abrecht was awarded the first ever European Solar Prize for this building in 1994 .

Another area of ​​Abrecht's activity is the energy-efficient renovation of old buildings. Since 2005 Abrecht is registered energy efficiency -Expertin for funding programs of the federal , energy consulting leads for residential buildings by 2018 and has also energy consultant for the Consumer . She also works as a speaker and author, and writes specialist articles and books. In 2017 she launched the “Future Home” e-learning platform to help residents improve their quality of living.
