Band history
Optimus Rhyme was founded in Seattle in 2000. In 2004, after a few demos and EPs, the self-titled debut album was released on her own record company Narcofunk Records and distributed by CDBaby . It was produced by producer Jack Endino . The band was best known for radio airplay on KEXP Radio Seattle . In 2006 the second album School the Indie Rockers was released , also produced by Endino. After a remix album in 2007, in which MC Frontalot also participated, the band broke up again. The band performed frequently around the Penny Arcade Expo .
Music genre
The name of the band as well as the artist names of the members and a large part of their lyrics relate to the Transformers toy series. Your image is also influenced by it. They pretend to be hip-hop robots fighting against the so-called Wackacons (“wack” means in hip-hop jargon to be bad, especially to rap badly) in Seattle. All of the members grew up in the 1980s and 1990s and had strong ties to the technological development of the time. Many texts are about the art of rapping and word games. Their music is a combination of rap , hip-hop and funk rock . In particular, the group had a real backing band with Powerthighs ( guitar ), Stumblebee ( bass ) and Grimrock ( drums ), which largely replace the sampling and looping common in the genre .
