Opuntia conjungens is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet conjungens means 'connecting, connecting, uninterrupted, continuing'.

description

Opuntia conjungens grows shrubby, is richly branched from the base and reaches heights of growth of up to 1 meter. The green, cylindrical, humped shoot sections are up to 40 centimeters long and 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The circular areoles are gray, the short glochids white. The up to ten needle-like thorns are white and 1 to 3 centimeters long.

The individually appearing yellowish flowers have a length of 4 to 5 centimeters and reach the same diameter. The dark red fruits are spherical. They are up to 3 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia conjungens is common in Bolivia in the Tarija department .

It was first described as Platyopuntia conjungens in 1980 by Friedrich Ritter . Pierre Josef Braun and Eddie Esteves Pereira put the species in 1995 in the genus Opuntia .
