Opuntia ekmanii is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Swedish botanist Erik Leonard Ekman .
description
Opuntia ekmanii grows low and shrubby and reaches heights of up to 30 centimeters. The non-humped, egg-shaped to elongated shoot sections are up to 10 centimeters long and up to 3.5 centimeters wide. The yellow to gray areoles are far apart. The glochids are light yellow to reddish yellow. The two to five needle-like thorns are up to 5 centimeters long.
The yellow flowers are 4 to 7 centimeters long and up to 4 centimeters in diameter. The pear-shaped fruits are up to 4 inches long.
Distribution and systematics
Opuntia ekmanii is common in Haiti .
It was first described in 1931 by Erich Werdermann .
