Opuntia guilanchi is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet guilanchi is the native name for the plant in Mexico.

description

Opuntia guilanchi has a shrubby growth, is erect, openly branched and reaches heights of 1.5 to 2 meters. The dark green, slightly downy, obovate shoot sections are 14 to 24 centimeters long and up to 16 centimeters wide. The small areoles are dark yellow, the glochids yellow and shorter than 7 millimeters. The first two to three thorns , later four to five, are protruding, slightly flattened and often twisted. They are initially whitish, later darken and are 0.5 to 3.5 centimeters long.

Nothing is known about the flowers . The almost spherical, downy fruits are yellowish to reddish.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia guilanchi is common in the Mexican states of Zacatecas , Jalisco and San Luis Potosí .

It was first described in 1910 by David Griffiths .
