description

Opuntia helleri grows stretched out or climbing and often forms dense cushions with a stature height of 0.7 to 2 meters. A tribe is usually not formed. The yellowish green shoot sections are round, oblong or egg-shaped, 20 to 37 centimeters long, 10 to 22 centimeters wide and 1.3 to 2.6 centimeters thick. The yellow, 2 to 6 millimeters long glochids are sometimes missing. The 7 to 28 thorns of different lengths  are yellowish white, become darker with age and are evenly distributed over the shoot. They are bristly, not dimorphic, not pointed, spread out, and pliable.
