Opuntia huajuapensis is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet huajuapensis comes from Latin and means 'from the Huajuapan de Leo location in Mexico'.

Opuntia huajuapensis grows shrubby to tree-shaped with creeping to ascending branches, is usually branched from the base and reaches heights of 0.4 to 2 meters. The green, downy, not humped, obovate to circular shoot sections are 17 to 36 inches long and 17 to 28 inches wide. The areoles are gray, the numerous glochids yellow to whitish gray and 3 to 6 millimeters long. The six to 15 awl, ascending to back-bent thorns are yellow and 2 to 4 centimeters long.

The yellow flowers reach a length of 4 to 6 centimeters. The spherical fruits are green to yellow and covered with yellow thorns and glochids. They are 2 to 4.3 inches long and have a diameter of 2 to 4.1 inches.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Opuntia huajuapensis is distributed in the Mexican states of Puebla , Tlaxcala and Oaxaca at altitudes of 2000 to 2700 meters.

It was first described in 1954 by Helia Bravo Hollis .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
