Opuntia roborensis is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Opuntia roborensis grows shrubby, is richly branched and forms dense groups with heights of 0.5 to 1 meter. The egg-shaped to elliptical shoot sections are 7 to 10 inches long and 2.5 to 3.5 inches wide. The round, protruding areoles are covered with gray wool. Their glochids are light brown. The one to three thin, needle-like thorns lying on the shoot surface are whitish gray and have a darker tip. They are 1 to 3 inches long.

The wheel-shaped, bright golden yellow flowers appear numerous around the tips of the shoot sections. They reach lengths of up to 4 centimeters and diameters of 5.5 centimeters. The purple-colored, inverted conical fruits have a diameter of 1.2 to 1.3 centimeters and a length of 1.8 to 2 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia roborensis is widespread in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul and in Bolivia in the Santa Cruz department in the Chiquitos province in the lowlands.

The first description by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1970.
