Opuntia zamudioi is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Opuntia zamudioi has a shrubby growth, is upright to spread out and reaches heights of 2 to 2.5 meters. A short, unborn trunk is formed. The dark green, tiny downy, obovate shoot sections are 20 to 26 inches long and 13.5 to 15 inches wide. The elliptical to obovate areoles stand 1.7 to 2 centimeters apart and have yellow glochids up to 2 millimeters long . The one to three (rarely up to five) needle-like, slender, brittle, white thorns have a yellowish tip. They are straight, the lower ones are slightly curved. The thorns are 0.5 to 2 centimeters (rarely up to 3.5 centimeters) long. The thorns are missing in the lower parts of the shoot.

The bright yellow flowers reach lengths of 6 to 7 centimeters and diameters of about 6 centimeters. The ellipsoidal to pear-shaped, tasty fruits are fluffy. They contain a yellowish orange pulp . The fruits are about 5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia zamudioi is distributed in the Mexican state of Querétaro in the Municipio Arroyo Seco on inland dunes at altitudes of 650 meters.
