Opzij ( Eng. "Out of the way!" Or "To the side!") Is a Dutch feminist magazine with a monthly publication. The editorial office is in Amsterdam . The publisher is "Veen Media". The circulation sold in the first quarter of 2008 was 65,627 copies.
history
Opzij was founded in 1972 by Wim Hora Adema, formerly editor of the children's and women's pages of Het Parool , and Hedy d'Ancona , formerly a. a. Editor and spokesperson for the broadcasting company VARA , founded. Figureheads of Dutch feminism like Joke Smit became permanent employees of the magazine. Initially radical-feminist in orientation and organized as a collective, it quickly became milder and finally put its collectivist character aside in 1981 with the appointment of Cisca Dresselhuys as editor-in-chief. Meanwhile, D'Ancona turned increasingly to politics and finally became Minister for Welfare, Health and Culture ( PvdA ) in 1989 .
In 1981 Cisca Dresselhuys became the first editor-in-chief. From June 1992 on, the “feminist yardstick” introduced by Dresselhuys became a figurehead of the magazine, which it applied to important people from politics, business, media and culture. In connection with interviews she conducted, Dresselhuys assigned a value of −10 to +10, depending on how closely her male interview partners, in her opinion, corresponded to the ideals of feminism. Ayaan Hirsi Ali also worked for the magazine and through Dresselhuys came into contact with Gerrit Zalm , who was the chairman of the VVD parliamentary group at the time , which was to form the starting point for her later work as a member of the Dutch lower house for the VVD. Dresselhuys retired on April 1, 2008, and was succeeded by Margriet van der Linden until 2013.
