Oratorio di San Filippo (Palermo)

The Oratorio di San Filippo is a church building in Palermo .

The Oratorio di San Filippo in Piazza Olivella was built in 1769 on the site of the old church of Santa Rosalia, right next to Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella, under the direction of the architect Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia as a classicist building. The client was the Association of Saint Philip Neri ( Congregazione dell'Oratorio di San Filippo Neri ), founded in 1575 by Pope Gregory XIII. when ecclesiastical brotherhood was confirmed.

The trapezoidal facade is structured by simple pilasters and crowned with corner statues. Above the door is the decorative frame with the brotherhood's coat of arms. The upper half with a dominant semicircular window is closed by a triangular gable.

The interior is decorated in the typical classicist style with pilasters and gilded garlands. The barrel vault is structured by cassettes of different sizes. In front of the inner facade there is a singing gallery supported by marble columns .

The oval altarpiece Madonna, Child and Saint Philip Neri , created by an unknown painter, is particularly noteworthy. It is supported by a white marble angel that Ignazio Marabitti created in 1775.
