Ord is a city and seat of the county seat of Valley Counties in the US state of Nebraska .
history
In 1874, the city was built on land previously owned by the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad Company . The place was named after Edward Otho Cresap Ord , in whose honor the city was named. Within a year, Ord became the county seat of Valley County, and the first school and courthouse were built. In 1880 the population had risen to over 250. The city has been officially registered since 1881. This year and the following year there were two fires in which some of the newly built houses were destroyed. With the Ord Quiz the city got its first newspaper in 1882 and six years later a volunteer fire department was founded. The city continued to develop into an economic location. In 2007 the US BioEnergy Corporation built an ethanol plant in Ord .
