Order of Kalākaua I.
The order Kalākaua I was founded on February 12, 1874 as an Order of Merit to honor excellent service by David Kalākaua , King of Hawaii .
Order classes
The order consisted of four classes. The number of members was regulated.
- Grand Cross - 12 members
- Grand officer to 20 members
- Commander - 30 members
- Knight - 60 members
The Grand Cross with Collane was only awarded to foreign heads of state.
Order decoration
The medal is a golden, blue enamelled Maltese cross with a white enamelled border that is carried by a royal crown. A so-called Puloulou rod is attached to each of the cross angles . A wreath runs under the arms of the cross. A kahili can be seen in the blue enamelled medallion , which is surrounded by a white enamelled ring with the golden inscription KALAKAUA ‣ FEBRUARY 12 TH 1874 .
Carrying method
The grand cross was worn on a collar around the neck and with an eight-pointed breast star on which the medal rests. Grand officer and commander decorated the award as a neck medal , grand officers additionally with a slightly reduced breast star. Companions wore the cross made of silver on the left side of the chest.
The ribbon is white with four blue stripes.
