Order of the Estonian Red Cross
The Order of the Estonian Red Cross ( Estonian Eesti Punase Risti teenetemärk ) is a state order of merit of the Republic of Estonia .
history
The Order of the Estonian Red Cross was established on August 6, 1920. From 1920 to 1936 it was awarded by the Estonian Red Cross Society ( Eesti Punase Risti Selts ). With the entry into force of the Estonian Order Act on October 7, 1936, he became a State Order of Merit of the Republic of Estonia.
Award
The Order of the Estonian Red Cross is awarded to Estonians and foreigners by the Estonian President on the Estonian Independence Day in February each year. It recognizes achievements in the field of health and social services for the common good of the Estonian people as well as personal commitment to saving human lives.
Today the Order of Merit is awarded in six order levels: in five basic levels (I. as the highest level) and as a medal (as the lowest level).

The Order of the Estonian Red Cross was awarded a total of 1980 times between 1920 and 1936 (to 1272 Estonians and 708 foreigners from a total of 23 countries). From October 1936 until the first Soviet occupation of Estonia in June 1940, it was awarded 1,466 times (only 93 times to foreigners from 16 countries). Between 1925 and 1928, it was the only Order of Merit awarded by the Republic of Estonia.
