Life

Henry Bengelsdorf was a trained clerk and worked as an inspector at the AOK .

He was a member of the SPD from 1919 to 1933. He worked for his party as a district leader and, after the Second World War, as district chairman. At the beginning of the Nazi era, the new rulers imprisoned him for eleven months in Fuhlsbüttel prison. He was accused of having participated in the preparation for high treason. He also had to quit his job. Despite personal imprisonment and persecution by the Nazi regime, he applied to join the NSDAP in 1939 . This request was rejected in 1940.

After the end of National Socialism, he rejoined the Social Democrats and was elected to the first freely elected citizenship for his party in 1946 . He only sat in the Hamburg parliament for the first electoral term (until 1949) and then left. Among other things, he called for a better connection between Steilshoops and Bramfelds to local transport.

In his honor, the Bengelsdorfstrasse in Bramfeld was named after him.
