Order of Merit to Sports (France)

The Order for Services to Sports ( fr. Ordre du Mérite sportif ) was founded on July 6, 1956 by decree 56-689 by the French President René Coty and was intended to reward people who have distinguished themselves through exceptional sporting achievements or themselves had rendered outstanding services to the French Republic in the field of sports .

Classes

The order consists of three classes.

Order decoration

The medal is a silver, gold-plated, round medal on which a goddess of victory rests with wings and outstretched arms. The figure protrudes over the upper semicircle of the medal and carries a laurel wreath in his hands . The inscription MERITE SPORTIF (Sport Merit ) can be read in the lower semicircle . On the back the rear view of the goddess of victory with the inscription REPVBLIQVE FRANÇAISE (Republic of France).

The decoration of the commanders is also enamelled in light blue on the obverse of the medal and surrounded by stylized rays of sunshine.

Carrying method

The commander's cross is worn as a neck medal . The medals of the officers and knights on the ribbon on the left side of the chest, with a rosette on the ribbon of the officer's cross .

The ribbon is light blue with yellow stripes.

Others

The award of the Order for Services to Sports was discontinued in 1963 as part of the reorganization of the French religious system and the Foundation of the National Order of Merit .
