The Order of Montesa was a Spanish knightly order . It was founded in 1316 by James II of Aragón after the dissolution of the Knights Templar in the fight against the Moors and equipped with the goods of the Knights Templar.

The Order of Montesa was founded mainly for the purpose of providing shelter to the Templars. The order cross is very similar to that of the Templars. The order also received the city of Peñíscola with the castle Castillo de Montesa . In 1400 the Order of San Jorge de Alfama was attached to him. He followed the Regula Benedicti and recognized the Order of Calatrava as head. In 1587 the office of grand master passed to the Spanish king. As a result, the order changed into a secular order of merit .

The costume was a white coat with a red cross.
