The history of the OPB goes back to the beginnings of the radio landscape in the USA. The first radio program was broadcast by the previous station KFDJ -AM from the campus of the Oregon Agricultural College in Cornvallis (now Oregon State University ) as part of a physics experiment in 1922. In the 1930s, the station received the call sign KOAC ( O regon A gricultural C ollege) and studios Covell Hall at Oregon State University. In 1957 the TV operation was added as KOAC-TV. The current structure of OPB was created in 1979 when the Oregon Commission on Public Broadcasting (OPB) was established. 1981 OPB was independent of the "Department of Higher Education" and thus an autonomous state agency Oregon ( state agency ).
