Oreocereus doelzianus is a species of the genus Oreocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Oreocereus doelzianus grows shrubby with cylindrical, olive-green shoots that are richly branched from the base and reaches heights of up to 1 meter with diameters of 6 to 8 centimeters. There are 10 to 11 ribs , which are slightly contracted between the gray-felted areoles . The thorns are yellow to dark brown. The four cross central spines are strong and up to 4 centimeters long. The 10 to 20 radial spines are up to 3 inches long. The terminal cephalium consists of long, white, wavy hair and whitish yellow bristles up to 5 centimeters in length.
The carmine-red flowers have a bluish tinge and emerge from the cephalium. They are up to 10 centimeters long and have a diameter of 3 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Oreocereus doelzianus is common in the Peruvian regions of Huancavelica and Ayacucho at altitudes of 2500 to 3000 meters.
It was first described as Morawetzia doelziana in 1936 by Curt Backeberg . John Borg placed them in the genus Oreocereus in 1937 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
