Oreste Palella

Oreste Palella (born August 19, 1912 in Messina , † November 18, 1969 in Rome ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Palella was already working as the third assistant director for Frank Capra and John Ford in the United States in the 1930s . After returning to his home country, it was a few years before he reappeared in film. From 1946 he worked as a screenwriter, again assistant director and in the following year also as a director for some films of modest importance. He filmed the life of Catherine of Siena twice ; his most important film is Jessica, filmed in US co-production with Jean Negulesco in Forza d'Agrò . He also founded the production company “Segesta Film”. After Mafia alla sbarra from 1962, Palella turned to the performing arts and played supporting roles in around a dozen films; the best known, probably the first, when he embodied “Marshal Potenza” in Pietro Germi's Sedotto e abbandonata .
