The People's Fedajin Organization of Iran (majority) (OVFI (M), Persian سازمان فدائیان خلق ایران اکثریت Sazman Fadaian Khalq Iran (Aksariat) ) is in his own words the greatest Socialist Party of Iran . Its aim isto overthrowthe Islamic Republic currently ruling Iranand to establish a socialist society. For this reason, the party is banned in Iran and therefore operates there as an underground organization. Your political activity has largely relocated abroad. In Germany, the OVFI (M) works closely with the Die Linke party. The party headquarters of the OVFI (M) is in Cologne .

Founding history

The People’s Fedajin Iran (majority) organization was founded on May 1, 1981 after the split in the People’s Fedajin Guerrilla Organization (OIPFG). Ashraf Dehghani left the OIPFG in the dispute and founded the People's Fedajin Guerrilla Iran (IPFG). She accused the leadership of the OIPFG of giving up the armed struggle and only working as a purely political organization. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the OIPFG opened offices in all major cities in Iran to take part in the parliamentary elections . The OIPFG received 10% of the vote. After the election, there were fierce political discussions that led to the OIPFG breaking up. The majority agreed that the Islamic Republic of Iran was an anti-imperialist state and that the armed struggle must therefore be stopped. This branch of the OIPFG founded the People's Fedajin Iran (majority) (OVFI (M)) organization in 1980, while the remaining members of the OIPFG founded the Fedajin (minority) organization .

aims

The OVFIM renounced the armed struggle and continued to operate as a purely political party that wants to overthrow the ruling regime in Iran by democratic and non-violent means.

From 1981 to 1983 the OVFI (M) supported the Islamic Republic, including the defensive battle in the Iran-Iraq war , the anti-American positions and the nationalization policy. From the spring of 1983 hundreds of OVFIM activists were persecuted, arrested and executed by the Islamic regime. Thousands fled abroad.

In May 1985, the OVFI (M), together with the communist Tudeh party, published a call for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic.

persecution

In 1988 Khomeini ordered the execution of thousands of political prisoners , including many members of the OVFI (M), before his death . The exact number of those executed is still unknown. Reza Malek, a former employee of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), put the number of political prisoners executed in 1988 and buried in a mass grave at 33,700 in 2008. Soheila Darvischkohan, a party activist, committed suicide after she refused to say Islamic prayers daily and was flogged daily for it.

Political reforms

Between 1988 and 1990 the OVFI (M) went through a phase of political reforms, turning away from communism and towards socialism. In 1990 the first party convention took place abroad. Since then, a party congress has taken place once a year.

On October 23, 2007, the first meeting between representatives of the OVFIM and members of the European Parliament took place .

In 2009 a decision was made to work with two other left Iranian parties, the "Union of People's Fedajin Iran" and the "Provisional Council of Left Socialists Iran". The aim is to found a new, large left-wing party modeled on the German party “Die Linke”.
