Lists on the subject

The Orita M1941 was a Romanian submachine gun that was manufactured during World War II and in the post-war period . The weapon was developed by the Czechoslovak engineer Leopold Jašek. A total of 4000 submachine guns were produced.

history

Romania's armed forces mainly imported their weapons from abroad before World War II. From around 1930, Czechoslovak Mauser bolt-action rifles and machine guns of the ZB vz. 30 (modified ZB vz. 26 ) manufactured under license in an arms factory in Cugir . Production of the Orita submachine gun began there in the early 1940s. Before that, the armed forces only used different foreign submachine guns. Two different variants were produced. The earlier model had a fire selector lever and manual safety . After the Second World War, the design was simplified by dispensing with the fire selector lever and manual safety. A handle lock was installed for this. There are also said to have been other models with pistol grip and a foldable metal shoulder rest . Although the weapon was mass- produced, the need for submachine guns continued to be enormous during the war. That is why submachine guns were still bought from abroad, for example the Schmeisser MP 41 , the PPSch-41 , the ZK-383 and the Beretta M1938 .

construction

The Orita M1941 is an unlocked recoil loader with a ground lock. The ammunition used in the weapon could not be clearly established. The Orita submachine guns were presumably set up for the 9 × 19 mm Parabellum cartridge . It is also possible that 9 mm Glisenti cartridges were used. The M1941 is loaded with straight bar magazines with a capacity of 25 rounds. There were also magazines for 32 cartridges. The firing pin is similar to the MP35 not firmly attached to the bolt head, but is moved only when completely closed lock forward. This safety mechanism is intended to prevent cartridges from igniting if the breech block is not closed and shooting would therefore not be safe for the shooter. A sliding visor is used as the aiming device and can be adjusted for a distance of 100 meters to 500 meters. The muzzle velocity is 390 meters per second, the maximum operational range 200 meters. The Orita submachine guns were expensive to manufacture but are said to have proven themselves in combat.
