Life

Oringa Menabuoi was the daughter of poor parents who died when she was still a child and she tended the cattle on the farm that belonged to her brothers. In 1259 she fled from a marriage arranged by her brothers to Lucca , where she became a maid for the Cortevecchia family. She spent a total of five years in Lucca. She prayed intensely and experienced ecstatic states. She later traveled as a faith healer in the area and came to Rome, where she was called Christiana. In 1277 she returned to her hometown and founded the monastery of Santa Maria Novella according to the Rule of Augustine , where she died in old age.

Oringa is primarily worshiped in her homeland, Tuscany . At first she turned to the Franciscan Order and carried out pilgrimages to the Portiuncula in Assisi . After her return to her home town in 1277, she turned to the Augustinian order during the tenure of Paganello da Porcari, Archbishop of Luca from 1274 to 1300 . Her feast day is January 4th . Her beatification was on June 15, 1776 by Pope Pius VI. approved.
