Orlando Smith
Orlando D. Smith (born August 28, 1944 ) was Chief Minister of the British Virgin Islands from 2003 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2019 .
Life
Smith was originally a doctor specializing in obstetrics and served as Chief Medical Officer in the UK overseas territory for many years. In 1999 he was elected to the Legislative Council of the British Virgin Islands for the first time for the then newly founded and led by him National Democratic Party (NDP) . In the 2003 elections, he led the party to a victory, replacing the previously ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP) in June 2003. In August 2007 he was replaced as head of government after a clear defeat by Ralph T. O'Neal (VIP), who was also his predecessor. From November 2011 to 2019, Smith was again Chief Minister. Smith did not run for the 2019 election.
