Orotidine (O) is a rare nucleoside and is structurally derived from uridine . It consists of β- D- ribofuranose (sugar) and orotic acid . It was first isolated from the Neurospora fungus in 1951 . It forms an intermediate stage in the biosynthesis of uridine monophosphate (UMP).
