Ortlieb von Frohburg (* before 1136; † August 18, 1164 ) was bishop of Basel from 1137 until his resignation, probably after March 15, 1164 .

Ortlieb von Frohburg was probably a son of Count Ludwig I von Frohburg (mentioned from 1098 to 1114). He himself is first attested to as canon of Basel in 1136 . In the following year he was elected Bishop of Basel and was attested as such on March 18, 1139. In 1139 he took part in the Second Lateran Council and the Reichstag in Strasbourg. Bishop Ortlieb was heavily involved in imperial politics and often stayed at the court of King Konrad III. on, whom he accompanied on the Second Crusade from 1147 to 1149 . After his return from the Holy Land, the king appointed him as his legate in 1150/1151 ( governor) in Italy. He accompanied his successor Friedrich I Barbarossa to the imperial coronation there in 1154/1155 . A third time, from 1160 to 1162, he was once again part of the imperial entourage during an expedition to Italy. As a bishop of Basel he promoted the founding of monasteries in Lützel , Bellelay , Schönthal (founded by relatives from his family before 1146) and Feldbach . Probably after March 15, 1164 he resigned from office. His relative Ludwig II von Frohburg was elected as his successor . Ortlieb died on August 18, 1164 in Italy and was buried in the cathedral of Basel .
