plant

After working with Plexiglas, precious stones and cast iron at the beginning of her artistic career, Sturm has been concentrating on wood since the mid-1990s. It became known in particular for its towers, which - although they give the impression of being made up of individual elements in layers - have all been sawed out of the trunk with a chainsaw since around 2003. Sturm consciously uses the surface structures that the chainsaw leaves behind as a means of expression. The rhythmic structure of the towers is often in tension with a break in symmetry.

"'I follow the wood, not the other way around ...'"
