Oscar Abbott

Oscar Bergstrom Abbott (born October 8, 1890 in San Antonio , Texas , † October 1, 1969 ) was an American brigadier general in the US Army .

Life

Abbott was the fourth of six children of Thomas Henry Abbott, Sr., who immigrated from England , and his wife Johanna Heiligmann. He completed an officer training and then found various uses in the US Army. On 1 July 1940 he was appointed Lieutenant Colonel (Lieutenant-Colonel) and on 24 December 1941 Colonel (Colonel) promoted and was until June 1942 heads of various departments of the General Staff in the War Office (US Department of War) . After that he studied between June 1942 and May 1944 as an officer in the headquarters with supply issues and was appointed on April 26, 1943 Brigadier General (Brigadier-General) promoted. He was then from May 1944 to February 1946 in command of Camp Beale near Marysville . This US Army training base for the 13th Armored Division , the 81st Infantry Division and the 96th Infantry Division housed 60,000 US soldiers during the Second World War ; a 1000-bed hospital was also set up there and it was used as a camp for prisoners of war .

After the war ended, Abbott was reassigned to the rank of colonel on April 25, 1947, before he was retired on October 31, 1950 with the rank of brigadier general. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Stephens and his second marriage to Henrietta Hummel. After his death he was buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery .
