Oscar Lorenzo Fernández

Oscar Lorenzo Fernández (born November 4, 1897 in Rio de Janeiro , † August 27, 1948 there ) was a Brazilian composer.

Fernández studied at the Instituto Nacional de Música with Francisco Braga and Henrique Oswald . In 1936 he founded the Conservatório Brasiliero de Música in Rio de Janeiro, which he directed until his death. Since 1939 he was also professor of choral singing at the Conservatório Nacional de Canto Orfeônico .

He composed an opera ( Malazarte after José Pereira Graça Aranha , 1931–1933), a ballet , two symphonies , five symphonic poems , two orchestral suites, a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music works, piano pieces, choirs and songs.
