Osceola, Chief of the Seminole by George Catlin
Osceola (* 1804 in Alabama , † January 20, 1838 on Sullivan's Island ) was an important leader of the Seminoles in the United States .
Life
He was born in the Creek Indian village of Talisi in what is now Tallassee , Alabama, in 1804 , and moved to Florida with his mother four years later .
Osceola, together with Micanopy, led the Seminoles in the second of the Seminole Wars against the US Army. The war temporarily tied 200,000 US soldiers and was one of the most costly Indian wars in the US.
