Oseleta is an old, autochthonous red wine variety from the Valpolicella area in the Italian region of Veneto . It was almost extinct after the phylloxera disaster , but is now being grown again occasionally. The variety is occasionally used for the assemblage of Valpolicella and Amarone , but since 1999 it has also been cultivated as the main variety of an independent wine ( Osar ).
Descent, distribution
Oseleta is genetically similar to the Corvina Veronese , Rondinella , Garganega , Dindarella and Pelara grape varieties .
The variety, almost extinct due to the phylloxera disaster, was reactivated in the 1970s in the municipality of Pigozzo in the province of Verona in Veneto. Since 2002 it has been officially approved again and recommended in the Valpolicella area. The cultivation area in Italy is 15 ha (2010).
Ampelographic variety characteristics
- The shoot tip is open.
- The large leaves are rounded and not curved.
- The cylindrical grape is dense and sometimes shouldered. The round berries are small and almost black in color.

The variety is prone to botrytis.
Wine
The red wines obtained are brightly colored, rich in tannins with aromas of herbs and cinnamon.
