List of grape varieties

Rondinella is a red wine from the Italian Veneto . It is part of Valpolicella , Bardolino , Amarone della Valpolicella and Recioto della Valpolicella . It is often blended with the Molinara and Corvina Veronese grape varieties .

ancestry

The red grape variety comes from Italy. The earliest mention of it comes from the year 1882. According to the DNA analyzes carried out in 2006, it arose from a probably natural cross of Corvina Veronese x unknown variety.

Rondinella shows a genetic proximity to the grape varieties Oseleta , Corvina Veronese , Garganega , Dindarella and Pelara .

distribution

In 2010 there were 2479 hectares in Italy and 2 hectares in Australia. Worldwide there is a total of 2481 hectares. In the 1990s, a planted vineyard area of 2,975 hectares was recorded. Its cultivation is recommended in the provinces of Mantua and Verona . The cultivated areas extend as far as Lake Garda . There are smaller stocks in Argentina and Brazil. The variety is cultivated mainly in the regions of Veneto and Lombardy, where it is mainly used as a blending partner for the Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Molinara varieties.

Ampelographic variety characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy with a slightly reddish tinge. The greenish young leaves have a bronze-colored tinge ( anthocyanin ) and are only slightly hairy.
  • The large leaves are round (see also the article leaf shape ) and five-lobed and are deeply indented. The stem bay is U-shaped or shaped like a lyre. The sheet is serrated.
  • The pyramidal cluster is large (often about 20 cm long) and moderately densely populated. The grape is usually shouldered. The round berries are medium-sized and purple-black in color. The berries taste neutral.

Maturity: matures about 35 days after the Gutedel and therefore very late.

Wine

Rondinella is seldom expanded as a single variety , as the red wine can have little independent character. It produces brightly colored and acidic red wines with a cherry aroma.
