Corvina Veronese is a red wine variety that originates from the Verona valley and is still almost exclusively native to the Veneto . It is not very successful when it is cultivated purely because it is not harmonious enough. But it is the main variety for Valpolicella wines as well as Bardolino , Recioto and Amarone della Valpolicella , where it is often blended with the Rondinella and Molinara varieties . The variety is often mixed with its higher-yielding, but not qualitatively equivalent, variant Corvinone Veronese . It is recommended to cultivate it in the provinces of Verona and Brescia . In 2010 the area was 7,496 ha worldwide.

Corvina Veronese has a genetic proximity to the grape varieties Oseleta , Rondinella , Garganega , Dindarella and Pelara .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is lightly woolly hairy and mottled pink. The yellowish-green young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and clearly indented. The stalk bay is lyra-shaped and the ends overlap. The blade is finely serrated.
  • The slightly conical grape is shouldered, large and dense. The oblong-oval berries are medium-sized and have a plum-like dark purple color. The skin of the berry is thick. The aroma of the berry is slightly astringent.

Maturity: approx. 30 days after the Gutedel , ripening late.
