Emil Oskar Beber (born September 26, 1875 in Münster ; † September 15, 1964 in Braunschweig ) was a German senior director of studies.

Live and act

Oskar Beber was the son of the railway assistant Friedrich Wilhelm Beber and his wife Anna Pauline, née Schmidt. He attended the Leibniz School in Hanover and then began studying new languages, geography and history at the University of Göttingen . He continued his studies at the University of Göttingen and completed it with the doctorate to Dr. phil. He then took on apprenticeships in Hanover and Linden.

At Easter 1909, Beber accepted a call as director of the secondary school in Marne , which was newly established at the time. In 1919 he was appointed director of studies and in 1930 senior director of studies. As a headmaster, he managed to expand the secondary school into a full high school.

Beber was considered a staunch democrat and stood up for the Weimar Republic . From January 1, 1913 to August 31, 1933 he was active as a city councilor in Marne and was a member of the Süderdithmarscher district assembly. Due to conflicts with the National Socialists, he had to take early retirement at Easter 1934. He then moved to Braunschweig with his wife Irmgard Winter, with whom he had a daughter and two sons, where he died in 1964.

The city of Marne made the former headmaster an honorary citizen on January 10, 1952.

Working as a local historian

Although Beber did not come from Dithmarschen , he devoted himself to the history of the region. In 1914 he co-founded the Association for Dithmarsch Regional Studies and played a significant part in the association's work for life. He wrote many articles for the magazine Dithmarschen and founded an art association, which only existed for a short time. In 1928 he founded a local museum. As exhibits he chose prehistoric finds and art that Rudolph Hartmann had collected in his Marner Skat Club .

Even after moving to Braunschweig, Beber continued to research Dithmarschen.
