Oskar Maria Stensbeck

Oskar Maria Stensbeck (born February 20, 1858 in Schreitlaugken , Tilsit district , † March 4, 1939 in Hanover ) was a German riding master and dressage instructor.

Life

Stensbeck was born on 1858 in Schreitlaugken, Tilsit district, East Prussia. His father Johann Heinrich Stensbeck ran a stud there and at the same time held the position of a university riding instructor with the rank of professor in Königsberg .

When he was seven, his father gave Stensbeck a pony. At the age of 15 he was already training dressage horses. From 1886 to the early 1930s he worked in various dressage stables, including in the Berlin Luisen- Tattersall and from 1922 in the Berlin Tattersall Beermann. At the instigation of Gustav Rau , Stensbeck was appointed as a civilian stable master in the school stable of the cavalry school in Hanover in 1926 . At the same time as the move to Hanover , the Stensbeck Reithochschule was built to promote riding training on a civilian basis. By working at his riding school, Stensbeck became one of the most important trainers of professional riders, he also made a very good name for himself as a trainer of dressage horses.

At the age of 72, Stensbeck wrote his experiences with horses in the book "Riding". At the age of 80 he presented a horse he had trained himself. Oskar Maria Stensbeck died on March 4, 1939 in Hanover.

Awarded the Stensbeck badge

The Stensbeck badge (see also Georg-Graf-von-Lehndorff badge ) has been awarded since 1983 as an award to horse landlords (with a focus on riding) and their trainers, as well as to horse management masters with a good to very good final examination in the practical subjects, the teaching and have completed the riding apprenticeship.
