The Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule is a grammar school named after Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein in the city of Fulda in Hesse . Around 1,200 students were taught by around 90 teachers in the 2019/20 school year.

history

The school was founded in 1838 as a secondary school with two classes. The first director was Wilhelm Karl Julius Gutberlet . After numerous provisional arrangements, there was a school building of its own on Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz for the first time in 1870, and it now had the status of a high school and five classes. In 1903 the school was recognized as an upper secondary school . From 1942 until the end of the war, this was called the Wilhelm-Balthasar-School , after a knight's cross holder . After the war, the municipal high school moved to the old teacher training college (Leipziger Straße 2), while the building on Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz was now used by the state advanced high school . Between 1956 and 1959, today's buildings were built in the new school district. With the move, the school was given its current name. Up until the 1960s it was an all boys' school , and since the second half of the 1960s it has also been accepting female students.
