Osmond Fisher

Reverend Osmond Fisher (born November 17, 1817 in Osmington , Dorset, England, † July 12, 1914 in Huntingdon , England) was an English geologist and geophysicist .

life and career

Fisher studied from 1835 at the Jesus College of Cambridge University . In 1852 he became a member of the Geological Society of London and in 1879 an honorary member of King's College London . Fisher was one of the first scientists to bring mathematics to geology. He examined the formations of Dorsetshire, East-Agrlia and the Isle of Wight. In 1858 he became Vicar at Elmstead and in 1887 Rector at Harlton, near Cambridge.

Fisher was awarded the Murchison Medal in 1893 and the Wollaston Medal in 1913 .
