Osmund Menghin (born June 22, 1920 in Vienna , † July 19, 1989 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian prehistorian .

Life

Born as the son of the prehistorian and folklorist Oswald Menghin , he received his doctorate in 1947 at the University of Innsbruck with a philosophical dissertation on "Studies in the theory of development and concept formation in the prehistory of culture". In 1957 Menghin completed his habilitation in Innsbruck with his work "Investigations on the Prehistory of Tyrol" and was appointed university lecturer; 1968 associate professor and 1972 head of the Department of Prehistory and Early History of the Alpine Region at the University of Innsbruck. Menghin devoted himself mainly to the prehistory and early history of the Alpine region, especially Tyrol.

Menghin was the holder of numerous honors and since 1948 a full member of the Anthropological Society in Vienna, since 1975 a corresponding member of the Austrian Working Group on Prehistory (Vienna).
