East Melanesian Islands
As East Melanesian Islands (Engl. East Melanesian Islands ), also Solomons-Vanuatu-Bismarck moist forests are referred to in the biogeography part of Melanesia .
The region is one of the biodiversity hotspots and is one of the Global 200 - ecoregions . It includes the Bismarck Archipelago (including the Admiralty Islands ) with the main islands of New Britain and New Ireland , the Solomon Islands , the New Hebrides and the Banks and Torres Islands . In total, there are around 1600 islands. Politically, the area includes the eastern part of Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu .
The East Melanesian Islands are in turn divided into five ecoregions:
- Admiralty Islands lowland rain forests
- New Britain-New Ireland lowland rain forests
- New Britain-New Ireland montane rain forests
- Solomon Islands rain forests
- Vanuatu rain forests
